Keeping the Party Clean
A outdoor event in the middle of winter requires continuous power, even when the show isn’t running. Equipment such as LED screens need air circulation around the clock to prevent ice build-up and potential damage.
The challenge is that the event only needs maximum power during the show itself. Lighting rigs, LED walls, and audio systems create huge power demands for a limited period, while overnight and during load-in or pack-out, the site’s power requirements are dramatically lower.
A conventional diesel generator is constantly burning fumes for that peak demand and continues running regardless of whether the site needs 6kW or 600kW, consuming fuel inefficiently even when most of its capacity isn’t being used.
By integrating the NRG system, we were able to operate differently.
Although the production required a 250kVA generator, the NRG battery handled the site load for 54 of the 67 hours leading up to the show; more than 80% of the time. The generator was only needed for two short operating periods, totalling 13 hours, to support production testing and recharge the battery.
Here are the end results:
~466 litres of diesel saved
~1.25 tonnes of CO2-e avoided
Generator run-time cut to under a fifth of what a generator-only setup would have needed
