  • About the Role

    TomTom Productions is on the hunt for an experienced Video Event Technician to join our Queenstown-based team. This is a pivotal role at the heart of some of the region’s most exciting events, from destination conferences to world-class festivals.

    As a Senior Video Event Technician, you’ll oversee the full production journey, from concept design and planning, through to technical delivery, installation, and wrap-up. You’ll collaborate with our talented technicians, amazing clients, trusted local vendors, and venues across the region to bring bold creative ideas to life.

    We’re looking for someone detail-driven, with strong leadership skills, and the passion to deliver exceptional events in Queenstown, and beyond.


    What You’ll Be Doing

    Delivering the technical side of events including planning, preparation, and execution

    Acting as the primary point of contact for all Video Production across a variety of Queenstown events

    Preparing accurate quotes and production plans to support account managers and fellow technicians

    Designing and managing a wide range of video ecosystems, including LED screens, projection mapping, hybrid conferencing, and live events

    Overseeing onsite delivery, including load-ins, rehearsals, and pack-outs

    Mentoring and guiding staff, taking a leadership role both onsite and in the warehouse


    Who We’re Looking For

    • 5+ years of experience in conferencing, festivals, or broadcasting
    • Solid technical knowledge across a range of video systems, with specialization in LED screens, camera systems, or projection systems
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
    • Strong organizational skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
    • Confidence preparing technical plans and documentation
    • Flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends
    • Full, clean driver’s license (manual capability required)


    Bonus Points For

    • Experience in content creation, editing, VJ-ing, or account/client management
    • Additional technical skills in AV, such as audio, lighting, or rigging
    • Formal training or qualifications in event production or technical fields
    • Familiarity with Barco ecosystems, Novastar, and other industry software
    • Experience with creating and managing power systems
    • First aid certification
    • Class 2 license endorsement

    Your Responsibilities:

    • Production Advance: You'll own the event process from start to finish — before showtime even begins
    • Client Communications: Be the key point of contact, offering expert advice, creative ideas, and technical solutions to help our clients’ events be the best they can be
    • Quoting & Documentation: Create accurate quotes, technical documents, runsheets, and event plans that set our teams — and our clients — up for success
    • Leadership: Collaborate closely with our talented technicians and support crew to ensure a smooth, efficient pipeline from planning through to delivery
    • Show Delivery: Lead the team delivering robust technical systems for every show — ensuring an exceptional experience from every seat in the house

    What You’ll Bring to the Team:

    • +6 years experience in live event production (AV, production management, or event delivery).
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, suppliers, and team members.
    • Technical knowledge across audio, lighting, vision systems.
    • Great organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to create accurate quotes, budgets, and technical documentation.
    • A proactive, problem-solving attitude and leadership skills to guide teams smoothly.
    • Flexibility to work varied event schedules, including evenings and weekends.
    • A full, clean driver’s license.

    Bonus Points For:

    • Experience in regional or destination events.
    • Formal training or qualifications in event production or technical fields.
    • Skills with CAD software for event layouts and schematics.
    • First aid certification.
    • Class 2 licence endorsement.
